Environment and Natural Resources Cabinet Secretary Prof Judi Wakhungu gives out solar powered lanterns to a pupil at Ramadhan primary school in Isiolo on Monday 04/04/2016.

ENNDA Managing Director Omar Sheikh said families of the pupils and students stand a chance to benefit from the project since the children will be allowed to take home the solar lanterns.

Mr. Omar said this is the first phase of a pilot project which would roll out to other Northern Kenya Counties subject to success of the Isiolo and Samburu counties.

Ewaso Ng’iro North Development Authority which covers 10 Counties in northern Kenya will distribute the items to beneficiaries.

Kenya is the only country benefiting from the project in Africa, while most of the solar lanterns lamps were distributed to Asia and Latin America.

Monday’s donation coincides with the Japan Panasonic Corporation’s 100 years of global existence. As a result, Panasonic is distributing 100,000 solar lanterns lamps worldwide.
